2015 Lava Flow Pahoa

    Through the fence

In 2015 I went to the Big Island of Hawaii to chase the lava flow from the East Rift Zone. The lava was running on the surface toward the small town of Pahoa. I wanted to be there to photograph running red lava. Well I was stopped at every turn. I got close a few times but each time I was stopped by security. I tried everything from just talking to them to bribery. So I had no luck. In 2016 I went back to the same place and now the lava had stopped just short of covering the town. It has solidified and turned and was running out to the sea. I went to the Transfer Station where the lava had run through the fencing. Rock through fence. It was very kewl to see. I had know from the news and people talking that the lava had run through a cemetery. I tried to find the cemetery many times with out any luck. I asked a few locals and was told I could not get to it. So I pulled up Google Earth on my laptop and hunted a way in. I made it! I had to do a little trespassing but I got there. Well worth it to see this. I hope you enjoy the images.
